Jasmine Crittenden
Jasmine Crittenden is a freelance writer and editor and singer-songwriter based in Sydney, Australia. She writes thousands and edits of words every day, in subjects as diverse as literature, music, travel and finance.
Jasmine is well-known in Australia for her dynamic, in-depth pieces on leading musicians, and has interviewed the likes of ex-Split Enz frontman, Tim Finn; U.K. star, Katie Melua; and international touring artist, Barb Jungr.
Jasmine studied English and Modern History at Sydney University, where she gained First Class Honours in Modern History for her thesis on the role of African-American music in the Civil Rights Movement.
For nearly ten years, she has worked extensively as a freelance journalist. Between 2003 and 2005, she was a columnist and critic for Sydney's most widely-read music newspaper, Drum Media, and she went on to freelance for other publications, including Songsmith and the National Jazz Website. In 2005, she was a finalist in the National Jazz Writing Awards.
Jasmine then spent several years travelling extensively. She stayed in the Cook Islands for many months; travelled from Vietnam to Latvia by train; built houses in Thailand for tsunami survivors; spent a summer travelling in the United States and lived in London for eighteen months.
In London, she focused on writing poetry and was invited to publish in Borderlines (U.K.) and Equinox (U.K.).
Jasmine performs as a singer-songwriter under the name Jasmine Beth. In 2009, she was a semi-finalist in the U.K. Songwriting Competition and, in 2010, she won Second Prize in the Sydney Songwriting Competition. She has just released her self-titled debut EP.
Apart from working as World Music Editor at Suite 101, Jasmine freelances for several publications. She writes for prominent Sydney musicians' organisation, The Jazzgroove Association; edits for Accomplished Editing and writes for The Article Boss.
